EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
Erin:
Hey everybody. Welcome back to The Extraordinary Purpose Podcast to another solo episode with Erin. I’m so excited to be here with all of you. I just had to re-say that like three times because I forgot the name of my own podcast for a minute there.
Oh my goodness. Chris and I just got done doing an interview for somebody else’s podcast, so I think I was just confused for a minute. We love going onto other people’s podcasts. It was really fun. We got to talk with this incredible psychologist who has written books on resilient parenting and is starting her own podcast. It was really fun to connect with other like-minded people around parenting, teens, and young adults.
On that topic, Chris and I are putting the finishing touches on relaunching our parenting program, which will be coming out very soon. I’m so excited about it. It’s so powerful, you guys. If you’re a parent or a mom who is really looking to take better care of yourself, model your own personal growth journey, reconnect with your passions and purpose, rediscover your strengths and values, and learn how to create healthier boundaries and better communication with your kids — this program is for you.
We’ll be starting a waitlist soon and we’ll keep you posted.
Today, we’re talking about trust — specifically trusting yourself and learning how to hear your feminine intuition.
I recently listened to a podcast where the host referenced a Forbes article describing our culture as being in a “trust recession.” We’re struggling to trust institutions, brands, leadership, and even one another. With so much information and misinformation coming at us constantly through social media and the news, it’s understandable.
But the silver lining is that this moment invites us back into trusting ourselves again. Asking: What do I think? What feels aligned with my values? What would my authentic self do? How do I want to live my life?
This practice of slowing down and listening inward is new for many people. And this connects beautifully to what I wanted to talk about today: becoming more resourceful and self-educated.
If you’ve always followed the rules — listened to parents, chosen a major because it seemed practical, done what you were told was the “right path” — you might find yourself in a season of pausing and asking: What do I actually want?
I’ve personally walked to the beat of my own drum for much of my life. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been deeply freeing.
For me, learning to trust myself began with presence — slowing down, getting quiet, observing my thoughts and inner dialogue. In my early twenties, I learned meditation and self-observation through a mentor. This practice helped me become more aware of my patterns, resistance, and inner truth.
One of the first major intuitive decisions I made was around my health. While modeling in New York City, I developed a skin condition and was advised to take Accutane. It didn’t sit right with me. Instead, I followed my instinct, found Dr. Perricone’s anti-inflammatory approach, changed my diet, and began exploring holistic health. This experience changed the trajectory of my life.
Later, I trusted my intuition again when choosing home birth for both of my children — even when others didn’t understand. Trusting my body, my femininity, and my instincts shaped how I parented and how I live.
Another deeply personal chapter of my life involved my journey with alcohol. Traditional recovery paths didn’t resonate with me, so I educated myself, explored alternative modalities, and trusted what aligned with who I am as a woman. It was lonely at times, but profoundly transformative.
The heart of this episode is this: slow down, get present, and learn to listen to yourself. Trusting yourself isn’t always the easiest path, but it’s the most authentic one.
When we model this for our kids — how to trust themselves, grow intentionally, and live in alignment — we give them one of the greatest gifts possible.
